Back-to-School Cleaning Tips

Back-to-School Cleaning Tips

 | SeasonalCleaning Tips

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. No, not Christmas. It’s back-to-school season! (Parents everywhere rejoice). While it’s fun to spend the summer with our toes in the sand, it’s time to get our heads back in the books. Shake off the sunscreen and get the house ready for back-to-school season with these five, easy cleaning tips.

#1: Divide and Conquer
Let’s be honest, kids and adults tend to get lax on their chores during the summer months. Between fun in the sun, pool days and family vacations spent at the beach, cleaning projects are probably the last thing on your to-do list. We get it, it’s understandable, but now that school is back in session, it’s time to reclaim responsibility for household cleaning tasks. Assign duties to every family member or mix things up and create a weekly chore wheel. Make sure everyone gets involved and make it a family affair. Remember to rock out to our back-to-school playlist to make cleaning fun for the entire family.

#2: Shoes Off
The consistent in-and-out foot traffic from kids running to the school bus, coming home from sports practices and bringing friends over for group science projects can lead to a lot of outside messes finding their way indoors. The best way to keep outside dirt out of your home is by establishing a “no shoes” rule in the house. Place a doormat or shoe basket near the front/back entryway of your home to encourage family members and friends to follow the no shoe rule at the start of the back-to-school season to set the no shoes policy early on.

#3: Upgrade Cleaning Cloths
Ditch your usual cleaning cloths and upgrade them for a microfiber all purpose cleaning cloth instead. Microfiber cloths are incredibly versatile and can be used on any surface, wet or dry. Millions of microscopic fibers grab and hold dirt, dust and hair, which means you can pick up more mess in less time. Talk about a win-win! Besides kitchen countertops and tables, use a microfiber cleaning cloth coupled with your favorite organic cleaning spray to wipe down backpacks, lunch boxes and gym bags to avoid any germs brought home from school.

#4: Clean Out the Fridge
Once a week, go through the kitchen refrigerator to make sure all family food is still fresh and edible. Anything that is stale or expired should be added to the family compost bin and anything that is past its peak can be repurposed in a family stir fry or crock pot dinner. Vow to stick to this at least once a week so the kitchen is always stocked with fresh food for school lunches and after school snacks. Plus, knowing what you have at home will make your weekly grocery trips so much easier. Trust us, you’ll be thanking yourself later!

#5: Make Mopping Easy
It’s inevitable, but outdoor messes will eventually find their way indoors, so when they do, be prepared. Make mopping easy with the O-Cedar®’s EasyWring™ Spin Mop and Bucket System. Take a spin around the house and enjoy your favorite O-Cedar playlist. Bust a move and belt out a tune. Don’t worry, we won’t judge you.

These five quick cleaning tips will get your home back in order after the summer season and ready for back-to-school season. Now if only the kids were excited to go back to school. Hey, a parent can dream!

In honor of back-to-school season, check out this video to find out some of our favorite, easy cleaning tips when using the EasyWring™ Spin Mop and Bucket System.

Tip #1: Detachable Microfiber Mop Head
Just snap on a refill to mop then snap off and throw in the wash to clean your mop head. It’s that easy! (We didn’t name it the EasyWring™ mop for nothing).

Bonus Tip: The red base is reusable so don’t throw it away! The only part that needs to be replaced is the white microfiber refill.

Tip #2: Extendable Handle
Twist to release, pull to extend. Twist to lock then mop with ease. Like we said, easy!

Tip #3: EasyWring Bucket for Hands-free Wringing
Let the mop head take a quick dip in the mop bucket then pump the foot pedal on the bucket. This keeps the mess in the bucket.
