4 TIPS TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR REUSABLE MOP REFILLS

Spring is nearly here, which means it’s time to refresh your home and do some spring cleaning. As you stock up on supplies, there’s one item you’ll want to make sure you have on hand: genuine O-Cedar reusable microfiber mop refills.

However, if you want to get the most life out of your mop refills, you must care for them properly. Here are four tips to help extend the life of your microfiber mop refills.

Tip 1: Don’t Use Bleach to Wash Your Reusable Mop Refills

Let’s face it: Big messes will happen no matter how often you clean your home. That’s why we always like to have extra refills on hand!

If you’ve just deep cleaned your floors with any of our microfiber mops and are putting a couple of our reusable mop refills in the laundry, you’ll be glad you did. But before you go running your reusable microfiber mop refills through the wash cycle, make sure you’re not using bleach to clean them.

Our reusable microfiber mop refills all remove over 99% of bacteria with just water.* And just as our mops don’t require harsh chemicals to clean your floors, there’s no need to use harsh chemicals to clean the refills themselves! The microfiber in our mop heads gives your floors a powerful clean. But laundering them with bleach can deteriorate their microfibers, wearing down the fibers and lessening their cleaning power. Using fabric softener has the same detrimental effect on microfiber.

Skip the bleach and fabric softener, and simply machine or hand wash them in cold or warm water. It’s that easy to clean your reusable microfiber mop refills so they’re ready for your next mess!

Pro Tip: Only wash microfiber mop refills with other microfiber items. Washing microfiber with other fabrics can allow fabric lint to clog their fibers.

Tip 2: Skip The Dryer and Air Dry Your Reusable Mop Refills

It might be tempting to toss your reusable microfiber mop refills in the dryer after gently washing them. However, if you want your mop refills to last, we recommend you lay them flat or hang them to dry.

Why is that? Microfiber is made of thousands of tiny fibers. You risk melting the mop refill fibers when you put your reusable microfiber mop refills into a dryer with high heat. This makes them less effective at cleaning up messes when you mop with them. Plus, microfiber mop refills may pick up lint left behind in your dryer.

The best way to dry your reusable microfiber mop refills is always to lay them flat or hang them to air dry. 

Tip 3: Switch Mop Refills When You Start Cleaning a New Room

Since all of O-Cedar’s microfiber mop refills are very durable and clean so thoroughly, it might be tempting to use the same mop head from room to room. However, to give your home the best clean, it’s best to use a different refill in each room.

Replacing your mop refills between rooms or large spaces minimizes the chances of spreading germs around your house. Using a new mop refill in each space ensures you’re starting with a fresh and bacteria-free mop in every room, so you can trust they’ll be sparkling clean and healthy for you and your family. It’s especially important to switch refills as you clean your bathroom and kitchen messes, since those tend to be high traffic floor areas that collect bacteria.
