4 Ways to Clean Your Home Like a Cleaning Pro

JULY 2, 2020 | Seasonal, Cleaning Tips

Home gives us all feelings of security, relaxation, and comfort. A clean home is a place to relax and feel great in your own four walls. At O-Cedar, we’re passionate about providing the best cleaning tools to help you keep your home clean, and in turn, make you feel good. With our home care cleaning tips and durable cleaning products, you can fight bacteria and germs in your home.

We've compiled answers to some of the most asked cleaning questions so you can become a home cleaning hygiene pro!

1. Why should I clean my floors with microfiber?

O-Cedar mop heads are made with microfiber, which consists of millions of tiny synthetic fibers. While you clean your floor with microfiber and water, these tiny fibers loosen and physically pick it up dirt and remove up to 99% of bacteria with just water*

But of course, you can choose to still use any floor cleaning solution of your choice diluted with water. Here are steps to making one of our favorite organic floor cleaning solutions:

  • Step #1: Add hot water to a cleaning bucket and add a ⅛-¼ cup of liquid castile soap.
  • Step #2: Gently stir the hot water and liquid castile soap together until thoroughly mixed and bubbles begin to form, but make sure you don’t have a ton of bubbles. No need for a foam party!

2. How can I prevent cross-contamination in my home when I clean?
Use Color Coded Cleaning (or Number Coded Cleaning if you don’t have multiple colors)  to separate the different types of tasks and home areas you have to clean to avoid cross-contamination of bacteria, germs, and viruses.

This simple system is an established cleaning standard in professional environments like hospitals and restaurants where cross-contamination could lead to illness. You would not want to clean your kitchen surfaces with a cloth that has been previously used to clean the bathroom.

Color or number coding can be broken down into 4 areas:

  • Bathroom (yellow / 1)
  • Toilet (red / 2)
  • Kitchen (green / 3)
  • Dining/Living/Bedroom (blue / 4)

For this system to work you will need to assign different colors of cleaning cloths to each area, making it easily identifiable. If you prefer the number system, use a permanent marker to write the number on the manufacturer label of your cleaning cloths so it won’t touch the surface. For your O-Cedar microfiber mop refills you can number multiple cleaning caddies to separate the areas of the home you clean and store mop refills in their respective number-coded caddy. This hygienic cleaning system can be applied to any cleaning tools: e.g. microfiber cloths, reusable gloves, and household cleaning sponges.

3. How should I protect my hands while I clean?

Wearing household cleaning gloves helps during cleaning because you’re more aware of what you’re doing with your hands and are less likely to touch your face with gloved hands. This means that when cleaning, the germs on the glove are less likely to reach your mouth, nose, or eyes.

Disposable cleaning gloves are the best choice for cleaning high-touch areas in the bathroom, removing pet messes, or cleaning after someone has been sick. Disposable gloves should then be thrown away directly after use. For reusable gloves, wash the outside with soap and water and let air dry.

4. What other ways can I protect my hands while cleaning my home?

Hand hygiene is important, especially when you are cleaning your home. The O-Cedar EasyWring Spin Mop & Bucket System allows you to thoroughly clean your floors without having to wring a dirty mop head by hand. With the simple push of the foot-activated bucket wringer, your hands will stay clean and dry while mopping, while the microfiber works hard to remove dirt and grime.

As any cleaning hygiene pro knows, cleaning with the right tools and products that make the job easier are the first steps you need to tackle any mess in your home with confidence.
