5 Tips for Eco-friendly Spring Cleaning

5 Tips for Eco-friendly Spring Cleaning

MARCH 20, 2022 | Seasonal, Cleaning Tips

April is Earth Month – a perfect time to learn how to make our world a healthier place for generations to come. It’s also a great time to add sustainable cleaning hacks to your springtime routine. Get the whole family involved, and show your kids how they can help clean responsibly. Cleaning your home with sustainable and reusable products can ensure your home shines without adding to your carbon footprint.

1. Make environmentally friendly cleaners with ingredients you have on hand at home. Add a few drops of essential oil to water for a fresh smell. Pour the mixture into a glass spray bottle and use as an eco-friendly surface cleaner. A paste made from baking soda and water works well as a sustainable sink and oven cleanser.

2. Reduce waste with reusable cleaning products such as washable microfiber wipes and mop pads. Many of the O-Cedar microfiber refills are washable and reusable, so you can reduce waste and have a clean house, too! A TikTok fan favorite, the RinseClean™ Spin Mop System comes with a microfiber mop head you can toss in the wash (just don’t use bleach!) that’s good for up to three months before you need to order a refill. The ProMist® MAX Microfiber Spray Mop features a refillable spray bottle and microfiber head, too. Additional mop heads are available separately.

Consumers love how the two usable sides let them clean up an entire floor in just minutes without having to change the refill head after every use. As you may have seen on social media, 3 refills = 1 clean house. You don’t need expensive cleaners or disposable pads, which end up in landfills, to achieve the clean you want. Both the RinseClean Spin Mop System and ProMist® MAX Microfiber Spray Mop remove 99% of bacteria with just water.*

3. Avoid filling up landfills with unwanted items. Donate your used clothing, toys, tools, books and furniture or list them for sale online.

4. As you declutter your basement and garage, be sure to bring outdated electronics to your local recycling center rather than placing them in the garbage. Fill paint cans with corn cobs or kitty litter before disposal to prevent hazardous chemicals from leaching into the earth.

5. Air your home out naturally without toxic air fresheners. The simplest way to lower indoor air pollutions levels is to open doors and windows. Let the natural breeze create a cross flow that carries out the bad air and brings in the clean air.

So let’s get to it! Clean, shine, and declutter your home while you save the planet. Looking for more eco-friendly tips and tricks? Be sure to check here and here.
