Kitchen Organization Tips for a Rainy Day

Kitchen Organization Tips for a Rainy Day

 | SeasonalGet OrganizedInnovation

As the summer days get shorter and the fall season starts to settle in, the weather is beginning to shift with cooler temperatures, cloudy days and even a passing rain shower. If you find yourself stuck inside on a rainy day, take advantage of the weather and organize one of the best spots in the house, the kitchen. Here are five kitchen organization tips for a rainy day.

#1: Keep Daily Go-Tos Nearby
This may seem like an obvious tip, but it can be a bit more tricky than organizing pots and pans at an arm’s length distance from the stovetop. Take into account what spices, cooking oils, ingredients and snacks you use most often and put them in a place where they are easily accessible to everyone. Small shifts can make your kitchen cooking experience a lot easier and subsequently, more enjoyable.

#2: Get Creative with Cabinets
If you have limited storage space in your kitchen, get creative with your available space. Invest in wire racks for larger cabinets to store bigger kitchen items like toasters, mixers, blenders and other kitchen utensils. If you have the space, install one or two shelves for your collection of cookbooks. Consider a portable rack for additional kitchen supplies. You can even install small hooks inside cabinet doors to hang small kitchen gadgets like measuring spoons, ladles and potholders.

#3: Use Clear Jars
Put your collection of clear mason jars to good use. Remove dry goods like cereal, nuts, seeds, pasta and rice from their packaging and place them in see-through glass jars or other clear containers. More often than not, we usually keep bulky unnecessary packaging, which creates cramped cupboards. (We’re looking at you cereal boxes). Instead, use glass jars to see the beauty and simplicity of your family’s food. Plus, this will make it a lot easier to see when you are running low on certain food items and when it’s time to restock.

#4: Take Advantage of Under the Sink Space
Store large bulk items like canisters of popcorn kernels, large jars of cooking oils, vinegars and bulk spices under the kitchen sink. You can also keep your cleaning supplies together in one bucket. Some kitchen cleaning essentials to always have at the ready include kitchen brushes, sponges, a homemade natural cleaning spray, gloves and microfiber cleaning cloths.

#5: Toss It In a Tote
Stock up on small baskets or clear totes and store any excess kitchen staples like bags of baking flour, dry beans and canned coffee beans. To keep things even more organized, group similar kitchen items together.

The next time you are faced with a rainy day, take advantage and show your kitchen some love with these easy, yet effective, kitchen organization tips.
